Yes, our hens are kept in free range conditions, ensuring they have the freedom to roam and forage naturally, which contributes to the superior quality of our eggs.
Pasture-raised eggs come from hens that spend much of their time outdoors on pasture, where they can naturally:
- Peck at grasses and plants
- Eat insects and worms
- Scratch and dust-bathe
- Roam over a relatively large outdoor area
At Highfield Farm we pride ourselves on being able to offer our hens vast amounts of space so they can forage naturally. Below I have shown you examples of typical supermarket chicken stocking rates;
Barn eggs - 36,000 hens per acre (one football pitch)
Free range eggs - 1000 hens per acre
Organic Eggs - 809 hens per acre

Our hens graze on organic pasture and in orchard orchards, they also have access to 10 x the amount of space required for organic registration. However, they are not certified organic because part of their diet is wheat grown on the farm which is uncertified.
The vending machine is designed for simple, self-service use. Their are clear instructions just below the payment terminal.
